Truth Yogi
The vibe has really changed over the past couple of years. These street actions are so much more mellow now. Is that what progress feels like?
I think real progress is chaotic. There’s a certain cultural drift, but then there are also counter-currents. First you have ripples, then waves and finally huge breakers. Everything gets tossed up in a seething foaming mass. And then, one day, we wake up to a new calm and find that the entire landscape has redefined itself.
I like my metaphors shaken, not stirred.
I remember when I first started trying to engage people in conversations about 9/11. How tense it was. Every seemingly harmless street action seemed to hold the potential for some kind of confrontation. Sometimes it was intense.
On Saturday, the feeling was mellow and calm. We no longer have to walk up to people to engage them – they come to us. We draw a crowd. And from a personal perspective, I would say that the “cool” people stop and chat a little. Those who brush past us with set jaws and stone cold faces, pretending not to notice our presence, strike me as half-dead. They are zombie-like in their lack of presence.
I would encourage anyone who disagrees with our stance to come up to us. Let’s have a conversation.
I was particularly struck by this yoga artist, practicing by our tent. To me, this incredible demonstration of mastery exemplifies the vibrancy and the diversity of the individuals who have embraced the greater “truth” movement and recognized in it something important.
Speaking up for truth (even if that means giving voice to your opposition to the “truth” movement) shows that you’re alive. Express yourselves!
There is by the way one caveat: An uninformed opinion carries very little weight. Let’s all have the courage to dig a little deeper. We’ll thank ourselves in the end.
PS. If this video feels long at five minutes you should have seen how long he kept this up for. I never asked his name, but the sign read:
